Burnout Coaching: The Road to Recovery

Burnout is a modern epidemic. I’ve seen it in working professionals, healthcare providers, entrepreneurs, students, caregivers, new parents, artists, activists, and people just trying to keep up with the pressures and pace of contemporary living. I know it well, having experienced it firsthand, and having helped many people over the years navigate their diagnosis and recovery. Recovery is possible, and it can be a life-changing opportunity to create something even better for yourself. Together, we can get you back to a place of energy, vitality, productivity and fulfilment.

What is Burnout?

Burnout is more than just being tired—it’s a state of chronic physical, chemical, social and/or emotional exhaustion. It can affect your productivity, relationships, and overall sense of self. Symptoms can include:

  • Feeling drained and unmotivated
  • Experiencing anxiety, depression, sadness, or anger
  • The inability to feel joy or pleasure
  • Cynicism
  • Reduced performance and productivity
  • Insomnia
  • Physical symptoms like pain, headaches or gut issues
  • A loss of interest in hobbies; and
  • Avoiding work, friends and loved ones.

It’s important to recognise that burnout can be both a physical and a mental condition. If left unaddressed, burnout can have long-lasting damaging effects on your health, relationships and financial wellbeing.

How Burnout Coaching Works

Burnout recovery is not a one-size-fits-all process. It requires creating personalised strategies that fit your unique symptoms and needs. Throughout the coaching journey, I draw on years of clinical experience as a functional medicine practitioner and chiropractor, bringing a wealth of knowledge to help you manage your burnout at the physical, chemical, emotional, social and spiritual level.

Together, we can help you regain a sense of control over your life and rebuild your energy, motivation, joy, fulfilment and passion. Some of the key aspects we focus on for recovery, and prevention of future burnout include:

  • Identifying the Root Causes: the first step in recovery is understanding what led to your burnout. Often, it’s a combination of work or life-related stress, personal and professional challenges, and/or unrealistic expectations. We pinpoint the specific causes of your burnout and create a sustainable approach to address these.
  • Emotional Resilience & Stress Management: it’s important to recognise that burnout is not the fault of the individual, and burnout recovery is the responsibility of the individual, the employer, and society at large. We practice this in sessions by deconstructing work and culture, learning mind-body stress management techniques, building emotional resilience, learning boundary setting, developing networks of care, training communication skills, and creating healthier relationships with rest and recovery. Where appropriate, we also discuss nutrition, sleep, stress, and physical fitness.
  • Balance and Time Management: there’s a way that productivity can be maximised that doesn’t sacrifice your health. This ‘time relationship’ fingerprint looks slightly different for everyone. Together, we figure out what your ideal time management approach looks like, developing actionable strategies that makes sense to you and your lifestyle. We work together to create a realistic schedule that also allows for self-care, relaxation, and quality time with loved ones.
  • Creating a Personalised Recovery Plan: burnout recovery isn’t a quick fix, and usually requires a long-term approach. It can take anywhere from 12 weeks to 1 year or more to recover from burnout. Together, we’ll develop a personalised recovery plan that includes practical steps to get you back on track, addressing the various phases of recovery. I’m here to support you and keep you accountable every step of the way.

Burnout Coaching is Different to Therapy

Unlike traditional therapy, our approach is tailored, action-oriented and forward-focused. We talk A LOT about the body, and how we can support our physical health as well, as recovery is not possible without regulating our nervous systems first.

My goal for our sessions is not only to help you heal from exhaustion, but also to come into greater alignment with what’s meaningful to you, and develop strategies to prevent future burnout. It’s not just about getting back to baseline—it’s about helping you thrive. I help you identify and address the root cause of the problem, guiding you toward personal growth, greater well-being, and more sustainable success. I often work in collaboration with functional medicine practitioners, integrative GPs, specialists, psychologists, nutritionists, naturopaths, acupuncturists, and other health professionals.

Taking the First Step Towards Burnout Recovery

Burnout is our body’s way of trying to communicate to us that something isn’t working. While it may not seem like it while you’re in it, burnout can be a profound, life-changing opportunity to get clear on what you want, and move towards a greater vision for yourself.
